To submit your extra credit, go to Assignments in our class's Canvas site.
You may earn up to 3% of a grade boost in extra credit for working with a writing tutor at the Academic Success Center during this semester.
Each visit will count as a 1% boost to your final grade (this will be added at the end of the semester). You are more than welcome (and encouraged) to work with the Academic Success Center as much as you want, but only the first three visits can count as extra credit.
Extra credit will not automatically be calculated in Canvas with weighted grades. I will manually add it at the end of the semester to your final grade in Self-Service.
Tutoring sessions must be in-person or on Zoom (not asynchronous) to count towards extra credit.
You can work with a tutor on any assignment and for any part of the process for any assignment as long as it's an assignment for ENGL 1181. For example, you could get help with any of the following:
Brainstorming ideas and coming up with a plan for any of the papers, assignments, or projects
Using evidence from your writing samples in your Project 1 essay
A specific writing issue with one of your assignments
MLA formatting, citations, or your works cited page
Revising any of your papers/assignments
You cannot get extra credit for a tutoring visit that you are using instead of a peer review for your project (if you missed peer review day).
Similarly, if you are also enrolled in ENGL 1170: Writing Co-Requisite, you cannot use the same visits for both classes.
Make an appointment with the Academic Success Center (use the Penji link in the far left navigation bar on Canvas)
Come prepared to your meeting with your assignment, partial draft (if applicable), and anything else you might need.
Then, after your visit...
When you receive the email from the Academic Success Center (may say it's from Penji) with the information from your visit, make a PDF of the email.
To make a PDF of the email: open the email and then press the print icon (or go to File > Print, depending on your email)
Change the printer to "Print to PDF"
Save the PDF in a folder where you can find it later.
Upload the PDF into one of the Extra Credit assignments (start with Extra Credit 1 for the first).
In order to receive the extra credit, the document must...
Be a PDF of the email that shows that the appointment is complete.
If you don't receive an email, I suggest reaching back out to the tutor)
Show that it is for an assignment in this class.
Be turned in before the final class of the semester.
If you need help with any of the above, please don't hesitate to ask!
